Bio:

My name is Julia Cross. I am 15 and have been mushing for 10 years. I live in Thunder Bay, Ontario and own Criss Cross Racing. I race mid distance races for Prairie Winds Racing and am currently training for the Mid Distance Beargrease 2018. Dogsledding is my passion and when I am not at school I am out with the dogs. My goal is to eventually run the Iditarod, and be the first Canadian champion in both the Iditarod and the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. My love for mushing first began when I was 5, at a local winter carnival. They were giving dogsled rides and I was instantly hooked. I went to my first dogsled race in 2013 and ran my first race in 2014. To me Racing isn’t always about winning, it’s about finishing with a smile on your face and having a happy healthy dog team.

On this episode we discuss:

  • How Julia got started in mushing at the age of four
  • We talk about her traveling long distances every weekend just to train her sled dogs
  • What it is like to be a teenager in the mushing community
