Join host Robert Forto as he welcomes author Bill Schneider about his new book: On Time Delivery: The Dog Team Mail Carriers.
Schneider, is recently retired as curator of oral history at the Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks. The book traces the history of dog team mail carriers in Interior Alaska and highlights some of the men who carried the mail.
If you are a fan of the Iditarod and the sport of dog sledding, there is a rich history about how these mail carriers and freight haulers of yesteryear would stage races against each other in their off time. Hence, the sport of dog sledding was born!
