Join host Robert Forto as he welcomes Iditarod and Yukon Quest musher, Hank DeBruin to Mushing Radio.
DeBruin lives in Ontario, Canada and races a pure-bred Siberian Husky team in long distance races like the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest and offers tours to guests who visit his kennel in the fall and winter.
Having finished his rookie run in 2012 in 49th place, DeBruin gives the advice to other up-and-coming mushers to use every training run as a learning experience and not to “fuss” over things at checkpoints.
We spoke about the dating task of traveling to Alaska for the Iditarod–4500 miles and five days on the road and having to drop the dogs every six hours during the trip.
