Join host Robert Forto as he welcomes, 2012 Yukon Quest Champion, Hugh Neff to Mushing Radio.
Neff discusses a brand new 350 mile mid-distance dog sledding race that will take place in late December, 2012 from Tok to Eagle, Alaska and back.
The Top of the World 350 is unique in many ways, the first being its format. It is a memorial run from Tok to Eagle with the mushers paying their respects to the late native chief, Isaac Juneby. Once in Eagle the mushers will have a potlatch dinner, a dance and a sweat bath before starting the actual race on December 29 as they head back to Eagle.
Neff came up with the idea for this race after traveling this route last year and wanted to bring the sport of mushing back to the people of the small native villages in Alaska.
The 25 musher field is full of veterans and rookies alike including Iditarod champion, Lance Mackey and several perennial Iditarod mushers as well.
